Now that we have a few shipments under our belts and into our cellars, I thought it would be interesting to see what you all think about the wines you have received thus far.
Starting with the McLaren Vale shipment, my personal favourite is the Hoffmanns Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a unique flavour profile that I can’t recall tasting my many other wines, if at all. Smooth and smoky, and delicious with a steak on the BBQ. The Ekhidna Rose was also a nice surprise, not too sweet, full of flavour, and perfect for sipping on a patio on a hot Sunday afternoon – here in Ontario, this seems to be the only time on the weekend that you can go outside this summer to enjoy the warmth and not get soaked by rain. I have also discovered that when you pour one of these wines to family and friends, people get very excited about it because they are all so tasty and the bottles truly are exclusive to my cellar…and those of other members of course.
From the Marlborough batch of wines, the Te Where Ra Riesling really blew me away. Growing up in the Niagara region, I have drank a good number of Rieslings (and there are some good ones out here), but the Te Where Ra brought Riesling to a whole new level for me. The balance in this wine is amazing. And of course from New Zealand you would expect great Sauvignon Blanc’s and both the Walnut Block and Tupari do not disappoint. Try the Walnut Block with citrus marinated shrimp and asparagus on the grill!
We want to know what you think of the wines you are receiving as a Hemispheres member. Let’s use this forum as an area to share our thoughts on the wines, to make food pairing suggestions, and discuss any other topic about wine. It is a way to bring members of the Hemispheres community closer and can be a wonderful resource for us all.
