Warm Me Up Winter Wines

Last week, the temperature here in Ontario got up to an unusually warm 12-15 degrees. We are usually lucky to get that warm by the end of April, let alone the middle of February! But of course, that was really all a tease and we are back down to around -5 degrees today and another snowstorm is in the forecast. So, reality has set back in and we accept that we are still looking at a good month or two of winter weather and temperatures.

I really donโ€™t mind the winter months, there are plenty of outdoor activities to participate in and there is something special about coming in from the cold and warming up. Hot chocolate is always good, but a good fire and a glass of wine really do the trick for me.

Rich reds like a Spanish Tempranillo or an Italian Amarone really bring warmth after an afternoon out in the cold. Enjoy these with a sundried tomato, garlic and melted brie spread for an amazing afternoon snack. If I am coming in from the cold in the evening, a small glass of Taylor Fladgate premium port does the trick.
