This unique style comes from the Veneto region of Italy. “Ripasso” literally means to “re-pass” wine over the skins of dried Amarone grapes to increase complexity. The wine is made from Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grapes in the foothills of Veneto. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, black cherries, fruitcake and fig abound. The palate is rich, soft and full with very subtle tannins and a real viscosity. I must admit, that I tend to prefer a good Ripasso style over many of the overblown Amarone wines I come across. Drink now to 2025.
