Quinta do Convento Tinto 2008 – (“Quinta” is basically the Portuguese word for Estate) The Douro Valley is famous around the world for its wonderful fortified port styles but many people do not realize the incredible quality of red table wines that come from this rugged region. This wine is a combination of 3 traditional varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. The wine shows a complex array of ripe and savory aromas such as blackberry, prune, leather and forest floor with toasty nuances. The palates are full bodied with firm, yet fine grained structure and a long supple finish. Drinking beautifully now but should hold for a further 5-10 years. 4 ½ stars
