Grenache for a long time was not given the recognition it deserved in McLaren Vale or the Barossa Valley. Now, I try more Grenache than Shiraz from these regions that I find truly impressive. The nose is a perfumed blend of strawberries, raspberries and potpourri. The palate is medium to full bodied with excellent weight, subtle tannin and delicate oak spice. The wine is rich and round without being overblown. Try with a slow cooked Pork Shoulder or a plate of Bangers and Mash. (That’s sausages and mashed potatoes to the uninitiated). Drink now to 2025.
