The Portuguese island of Madeira has been producing some of the finest and most ageable wine in the world for hundreds of years. The unique method of production involves fermentation, fortification and then heating of the wine for at least 3 months in โEstufasโ. This produces a wine that is unique, delicious and incredibly long-lived. It is made from 6 indigenous grapes varieties. The flavours are very complex, reminiscent of fine tawny port or olorosso sherry. The palate is rich, sweet and nutty with notes of dried peach, prune, orange rind and dates. Drink now to 2050.
