Aglianico likely finds its’ most famous, powerful and profound expression in the vineyards of the “Taurasi DOCG”. The high altitude, mineral laden volcanic soils and low yields combine to produce a wine to rival the greatest red styles in the world. 2007 was a particularly fine vintage for Taurasi, combining ripeness with balanced acidity and a solid fruit weight needed to temper the enormous structure. This single vineyard, deeply coloured wine, shows complex aromas of pencil shavings, licorice, wet-stone minerality and black plums. The palate is very full bodied with fine oak, brooding intensity and surprisingly elegant, softened tannins. One of those “wow” wines. Drink now to 10 years.
